Dan Smith

Artist Dan Smith earned BFA & MFA degrees in Painting from East Carolina University and the University of South Carolina. He enjoys working in a variety of techniques and materials to make unique artworks that encourage viewer interaction.  

During the past 50 years, Smith has developed a national exhibition record. His art has been featured in juried, group, and one-person exhibitions around the country, mainly in museums, art centers, and colleges. He has also taught art studio, art appreciation, and humanities-based classes and workshops throughout the Southeast.  

Smith’s art is in private and public collections, especially in North and South Carolina and Virginia. In 2009, he was selected by Oakwood Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Mural Committee to create a 10 x 50 foot mural describing interaction with the school curriculum. Since then, Smith has painted numerous commissions, mainly portraits. His 3-piece 90 x 31inch interior triptych was recently completed and installed in a private home in Hickory.  

Last month Smith become an artist member of Trade Alley Art, (www.tradealleyart.com), the largest gallery in Hickory, which is owned by local artists, and is located on 25 2nd St NW, next to Taste Full of Beans Café.
